China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) launched nine exploration and development blocks in the South China Sea for foreign cooperation in 2012.

The nine blocks cover a total area of 160,124 sq km. Seven of the offered blocks are in the Zhongjiannan basin, and the other two blocks lie in the Wan’an and Nanweixi basins.
