A jackup rig being towed about 125 miles off the coast of Sakhalin Island in the Sea of Okhotsk sank in a winter storm with a crew of 67 onboard on Dec. 18.
As of Dec. 19, fourteen of the workers were rescued by the boat towing the rig. Fourteen others were found dead and 39 were missing.
The rescue efforts were hampered by driving winds in blizzard conditions.
The Kolskaya was reported to have keeled over and sunk within 20 minutes. The water depth was estimated at 3,439 ft.
The rig was being towed from Kamchatka to Sakhalin Island.
