Deepwater production is challenged by well underperformance issues that are hard to diagnose early on and expensive to deal with later. Problems are amplified by reliance on few complex wells with sophisticated sand control media. A new non-intrusive surveillance method uses acoustic signals sent via the fluid column to identify impairment in sand-screened completions in real time.
This work will commence early September 2008 and have duration of approximately 19 days of continuous offshore survey work.
The "Bounty" exploration well was drilled to a total depth of approximately 17,360 feet and encountered gas bearing horizons with the main targeted zone in the well encountering approximately 200 feet of pay.
The survey area, at more than 9000 km2 and covering 30 blocks, includes all the Barents Sea acreage in the licensing round.
This well should be spudded by the end of the month.
The well is expected to be finished during September 2008.
Aker Exploration is operator for two licenses and the company has already nominated blocks for the forthcoming 20th licensing round.
The operator has also reprocessed an additional 70km of 2D seismic and is integrating regional studies and surface geological work with the newly acquired data.
