Houston-based Exmar Offshore Co. is to supply a newbuild semisubmersible production hull to LLOG Exploration Co. with the facility to be installed in the Gulf of Mexico by 2014.

The company has entered into an agreement with Louisiana-based LLOG to design the newbuild hull based on Exmar's proprietary OPTI® series of hulls. This design will be similar to the OPTI-EX® built for Exmar NV of Belgium and subsequently sold to LLOG Deepwater last year. That facility is now producing the deepwater Who Dat field in the Mississippi Canyon area of the GOM.

The new hull design will be larger in order to accommodate the anticipated processing requirements of LLOG Exploration and its partners, says Exmar, which adds that the Opti hull is designed for optimized motions and meets the latest environmental requirements for the Gulf.

Exmar chief executive officer, Nicolas Saverys, said, “Exmar is pleased to be selected by LLOG to design a second production facility for the Gulf of Mexico. This deal represents a continuation of our partnership that started with the OptiEx and we appreciate LLOG’s confidence in the Opti design as a flexible deepwater production platform.” Exmar will provide the Opti design package, engineering services, project management and construction supervision for the hull.

No financial figure has been disclosed for this deal.
