Subsea 7 has clinched a US $300 million contract extension from BP for the operator’s deepwater Foinaven and Schiehallion fields west of Shetland, as well as support for other North Sea assets for the company.

The contractor said its contract for subsea construction, inspection, repair, and maintenance services in the North Sea has been extended for five years and will run until 2017. Under the terms of the contract, Subsea 7 will deploy the multi-purpose support vessel Subsea Viking to provide extensive support services primarily for BP’s operations in the Foinaven and Schiehallion fields, as well as support for the operator’s assets elsewhere.

The work will be managed by Subsea 7 from its Subsea Centre of Excellence in Aberdeen.

The Foinaven and Schiehallion fields lie within 15 km of each other and approximately 175 km west of Shetland, in water depths of between 350-450 m (1,148-1,476 ft).
