Cordex Instruments launched its next generation corrosion monitoring device, which streamlines readings gathered in the field and enables users to monitor integrity levels at specific points on an asset or pipeline.
The latest UT5000 thickness gauge was unveiled at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston. The hand-held device, which can be used for non-destructive testing to establish the extent of corrosion, has several updates including intelligent measuring technology, which can record multiple readings at specific locations, claimed the company.
A total of nine multi-point readings can now be saved against each radio frequency identification tag on the asset or pipeline, which greatly reduces time spent in the field and increases the effectiveness and efficiency of corrosion monitoring, stated the company.
The UT5000 has also achieved its dust certification and can be used in dust environments, which have been assessed as having an explosion risk.
Chief executive of Cordex, Tony Holliday, said, “Failures on ageing assets and pipelines are often attributed to corrosion and defective welds, so effective inspection and maintenance is increasingly vital.”
