The Energy Industries Council (EIC), the trade association for U.K. companies that supply goods and services to the energy industries worldwide, appointed Ian Stokes as its new chief executive officer (CEO).
He takes over from current CEO Mike Major as of Jan. 13, 2012. Stokes will be relocating to run EIC’s Houston office on a temporary basis, prior to a new appointment.
Stokes brings to the EIC wide international commercial experience in addition to his training and background as a lawyer, and has worked extensively in Africa, the Americas, Australasia, China, Europe, the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia.
Having begun his working life with the German multi-national industrial plant contractor Kloeckner, he went on to work initially as a commercial lawyer, and later as commercial contracts manager for Costain Engineering. Moving into a sales management role for Costain, he developed a substantial track record in the water industry and became general manager of Costain’s Environmental Business Group.
Subsequent roles include business development director at North West Water International; managing director of Biwater’s operations in Germany; international director at Wessex Water; and senior director positions at AWG. The last few years has also seen him teach negotiation skills, following the foundation of his own business Pro-Negotiations.
