Tethys Petroleum Ltd. appointed Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad to the company’s board of  directors.

The appointment is subject to acceptance by the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Khalilzad also will chair the board’s new Strategic Risk Committee.

Khalilzad is president of a Washington DC-based firm focused on the Middle East and Central Asia. From 2007 to 2009, he served as the US ambassador to the United Nations. Prior to that, he served as US ambassador to Iraq (2005 to 2007) and US ambassador to Afghanistan (2003 to 2005). He also served as US special presidential envoy to Afghanistan (2001 to 2003).
