ExxonMobil has elected Ursula M. Burns to its board of directors, effective Nov. 27, the company announced.

Burns, who earned a bachelor’s of science degree in mechanical engineering from Polytechnic Institute of NYU and a master’s of science degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University, is chairman and CEO of Xerox Corp.

She serves on the board of the American Express Corp. and provides leadership counsel to numerous community, educational and non-profit organizations including FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), National Academy Foundation, MIT and the U.S. Olympic Committee, among others, the release stated. She is a founding board director of Change the Equation, which focuses on improving the US education system in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
