Anadarko and partner Ecopetrol have confirmed a new deepwater gas province offshore Colombia in the Caribbean with a new discovery, proving a gas presence on the same geological trend as the Kronos Field, according to a news release.

Located in the Purple Angel Block, the Gorgon-1 exploration well reached depths ranging from 3,675 m to 4,414 m (12,057 ft to 14,482 ft), finding gas at two exploration targets. Anadarko, the operator, said the well hit 79 m to 110 m (260 ft to 360 ft) net of natural gas pay.

“The confirmation of gas fields in the area opens the possibility for Colombia to develop a gas production specialized ‘cluster,’ which would allow for sharing facilities and improving projects' profitability and efficiency,” the release said.

The well is 27 km (17 miles) away from the Purple Angel-1 well, which confirmed the reservoir’s extension in 2015. The Purple Angel Block borders the Fuerte Sur blocks, where Kronos-1 was discovered, Cl-5 and Fuerte Norte, the release said.

Anadarko and Ecopetrol each hold a 50% interest in the blocks.
