San Luis Obispo, CA – Global Geophysical Services (Global) provides customers with critical seismic data to guide future oil exploration. The newest project they are working on in Colombia is being assisted by GPS and fleet management technology to operate safely and efficiently.

Fleet Management Solutions, Inc provides the GPS tracking and end-to-end mobile resource management systems using Iridium satellite communications for near real-time information and total coverage anywhere on the globe. Global has moved their FMS equipment from the last survey operation in Chile, with the confidence it will increase safety and productivity on the Colombia project. In this case, challenges included remote job location, availability of fuel, and responsibility to the local community and its contractors.

Distances between the job site, refueling locations and accommodation facilities created logistics issues. Staff assigned to monitor and optimize the operation using FMS reports determined the best approach would be to create a local fuel depot, even though the project would be completed in short order.

“Rapid and low impact installation and startup of the FMS equipment enabled us to immediately identify areas of inefficiency. Our conclusions were obvious and the teams adjusted their operations, helping to complete the project on time,” stated Vladimir Vanovac, Manager Worldwide Navigation and Survey.

“We are already planning our next major project and plan to use FMS equipment, since it is essential for us to have the intelligence the system provides via the FMS Fleet Central user interface,” continued Vanovac. “Operator safety, efficient deployment of vehicles and asset tracking are key components of our health, safety, environment, and quality performance.
