Clarinete 2ST, the first appraisal well drilled in Canacol Energy Ltd.’s recently discovered Clarinete gas field on the VIM 5 E&P contract in Colombia, tested at a final gross rate of 25.6MMcf/d, or 4,491boe/d, of dry gas, the company said Oct. 15.
The well is in the Cienaga de Oro reservoir, and the overlying reservoir is the Tubara sandstone. Canacol, through its wholly owned subsidiary CNE Oil & Gas SAS, holds full operated interest in the VIM 5 contract.
Clarinete-2 was spudded on Aug. 2 and was sidetracked on Aug. 31 after becoming stuck in the shallow Porquero shales at about 4,300 ft, not yet hitting the target at 5,967 ft. Total depth of 7,842 ft was reached on Sept. 16, the company said. There was 127 ft of total net gas pay with 23% average porosity in the two main reservoir intervals.
Dry gas in the shallower sandstones in the Tubara were also encountered, the company said. No reserves or resources are currently booked in Tubara.
When Clarinete’s production testing is finalized, the drilling rig will be mobilized to the Oboe 1 site about 3 km north of Clarinete 1 discovery well. It will spud in early November, the company said.
