Two major contractors working for operator Total have turned to riser monitoring specialist 2H Offshore to provide more expertise for the forthcoming Kaombo development in Block 32 offshore Angola.

One of the members of the UK-based Acteon group of companies, 2H Offshore has been selected by Heerema Marine Contractors and partner Technip to provide the engineering for hybrid risers to be used on Kaombo.

As part of its workscope for the Heerema/Technip JV, personnel at 2H will design a total of 18 single top tensioner risers, with specific responsibility for buoyancy tanks, upper and lower riser assemblies, in addition to delivering global analysis services and systems engineering.

Heerema and Technip were together awarded a lump sum contract in April worth US $3.5 billion from Total for engineering, procurement construction, installation and pre-commissioning for subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines on Kaombo. Technip has 55% of the contract value, with Heerema the other 45%.

Aker Solutions has a $2.27 billion (NOK 14 billion) contract from Total to provide subsea production systems for the project.

Kaombo, located in water depths ranging from 1,425m-1,925m (4,631-6,314 ft), will tap discoveries at Gindungo, Gengibre, Canela, Louro, Mostarda West and Caril using two turret-moored FPSOs, being supplied by Sembcorp’s Sembawang Shipyard in Singapore, through a US $481 million (Sing. $600 million) deal with Saipem.
