Energean Oil & Gas has started to acquire a high resolution airborne gravity gradiometry (AGG) survey as part of the exploration work program over the onshore Ioannina Block in western Greece, the company said in a news release.
For the AGG acquisition, Energean said it has appointed CGG (NYSE: CGG). A total of 10,000 km of data will be acquired.
The survey will include acquiring aeromagnetic data and high resolution digital elevation mapping.
The purpose of this data is to identify areas of interest for hydrocarbon exploration in advance of a 2-D seismic acquisition program planned for 2016. The survey objectives are to define the depth of the geological basin, to locate and delineate targets for exploration drilling as well as to locate areas for future seismic surveys, Energean said in the release.
