GE Oil & Gas (NYSE: GE) has opened a new facility in Takoradi Port, Ghana, that will be the primary service center for deepwater offshore projects in Ghana, according to a news release.
The facility features a 1,600-sq m (17,222-sq ft) indoor test area capable of simultaneously testing three subsea trees and 4,000 sq m (43,056 sq ft) of indoor and outdoor storage.
“This new infrastructure is already playing a critical role in supporting the installation for Eni’s Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) project—for which GE Oil & Gas is supplying subsea and turbomachinery equipment—and will support the local community by helping to provide direct employment opportunities,” the release stated. “It will also provide welcome support for the local supply chain, and for small and medium-sized enterprises.”
In addition, the company has committed to training Ghanaian personnel over the next five years. GE has already recruited more than 30 Ghanaian staff to work at the new facility, including two engineers who are working on the Offshore Cape Three Points the (OCTP) project, according to the release. The company was awarded an $850 million order to supply equipment for the project in 2015.
