GeoPark Ltd. is calling the Jacana 5 appraisal well drilling results successful after a test resulted in a production rate of about 2,500 barrels of oil per day with less than 1% water cut, the company said in a news release.
The results, which followed the Jacana 4 and Jacana 3 wells, also extended the Jacana oil field in Colombia’s Llanos 34 Block. GeoPark said the well was drilled 780 m north of the Jacana 3 appraisal well further down dip to a bottom-hole location below the previous lowest-known oil, where it hit oil in the Guadalupe Formation.
The well was drilled to a total depth of 11,467 ft.
GeoPark said additional production history is required to determine the well’s stabilized flow rates; however, surface facilities are in place and the well is in production.
“Although test rates are preliminary, it highlights the reserve potential of the Jacana field—where further appraisal and development drilling is required to delineate and understand the full extent of this productive field,” GeoPark CEO James Park said.
Once the Jacana 5 well testing is complete, the company said the drilling rig will move northeast along the trend to the Tigana Field, followed by other locations, to continue its drilling program of five more wells in the Llanos 34 Block before year-end.
The block is operated by GeoPark with a 45% working interest.
