Satellite communications provider ITC Global has been awarded a three-year contract to provide broadband connectivity to the world’s largest semisubmersible drilling rig, which is commissioned for work in the Great Australian Bight, the company said in a news release.

ITC is utilizing its very small aperture terminal solution, which enables the ultradeepwater, harsh environment rig to manage business communications while also monitoring and maintaining operations, the company said.

The Houston-based company, which is part of the Panasonic family, said it has finished installing two stabilized antenna systems on the rig. The systems feature “an innovative design of a C-band and Ku-band dual switching setup, delivering high-speed data service via two satellites,” enabling added redundancy and uptime, the release said.

The Ocean GreatWhite semisubmersible was recently delivered to Diamond Offshore and will begin its contract term in late 2016, Diamond Offshore said on its website.
