Jura Energy Corp. announced a potential gas discovery at the Aminah-1 exploration well in the Badin IV South Block in Pakistan, the company said Feb. 22.
Jura holds a 27.5% working interest in the block, which is operated by Petroleum Exploration (Private) Ltd. (PEL). PEL has not provided Jura drilling depth, testing results or other status information for Aminah-1, and Jura has not independently verified the discovery.
Jura and PEL are currently in dispute over a past cash call for the Badin IV South Block. PEL has begun proceedings with the government of Pakistan to attempt to forfeit Jura’s working interest in the block.
Jura and the other nonoperated working interest holder challenged the validity of the cash call, which was paid. Jura disputes PEL’s claim that it is in default under the Badin IV South joint operating agreement and that Jura’s working interest in the block can be forfeited.
Calgary, Alberta-based Jura operates in Pakistan through subsidiaries Frontier Holdings Ltd. and Spud Energy Pty Ltd.
