KrisEnergy Ltd.’s Key Gibraltar jackup rig began drilling the Rossukon-2 exploration well in G6/48 in the Gulf of Thailand, the company said March 17.

The Key Gibraltar is owned by Shelf Drilling (Southeast Asia) Ltd. KrisEnergy contracted the rig for six months for its Thai drilling program, which includes Rossukon-2 in G6/48 and 15 development wells in the Wassana oil field.

The Rossukon oil accumulation was discovered in 2009, and the Rossukon-2 well is 1 km northeast of the Rossukon-1 discovery well. Rossukon-2 will reach 5,462 ft (1,665 m) total depth and target early Miocene stacked fluvial sandstone. It will also appraise the Rossukon-1 reservoir, which tested 850 bbl/d. The Rossukon-2 well is in 210 ft of water, the company said.

G6/48 covers 566 sq km over the Karawake Basin and lies to the north of the G10/48 license in the Wassana Field. KrisEnergy became operator of G6/48 in 2014. It holds a 30% working interest, and its partners are Northern Gulf Petroleum Pte Ltd. with 40% and Mubadala Petroleum with 30%.
