McDermott International Inc. (NYSE: MDR) was awarded a contract to transport and install subsea equipment for Chevron USA Inc.'s brownfield expansion of the Jack and St. Malo fields in the U.S. GoM, the company said March 30.

The value of the contract is included in the company’s first-quarter 2015 backlog.

McDermott will handle subsea umbilicals, manifolds, jumpers and flying leads. Subsea construction vessel North Ocean 102 will transport and install 30 m of umbilicals and associated flying leads.

The final jumper assembly is scheduled to be completed at McDermott’s Gulfport Spoolbase in Mississippi prior to installation by McDermott’s Derrick Barge 50 utilizing its deepwater lowering system.

Installations will begin in 2016’s second quarter.

Jack and St. Malo are within 25 m of each other in the Walker Ridge area, about 280 m south of New Orleans. First oil and natural gas production was achieved in December 2014.

Scott Munro, vice president for Americas, Europe and Africa, said that this is McDermott’s second subsea project for Chevron. Last year, during the fields’ initial development, McDermott installed large and complex umbilical end terminations in 7,200 ft of water, he added.
