Petrobras has confirmed that part of a pipeline was lost during an installation project to install two new oil export lines at the P-55 unit on the deepwater Roncador Field in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil.

A steel cable connected to the crane on Saipem’s FDS installation vessel parted and a section of the pipeline it was attached to sank as a result, Petrobras said. The incident happened on 16 March.

The operator said there will be no overall impact on the pipeline installation schedule as the damaged pipe section was replaced from its existing inventory.

Oil is already being offloaded from the Roncador Field via the P-54 platform, and this export route will be replaced once the two new oil lines are in place.
