Petrofac has secured a contract with the BP-operated Shah Deniz 2 project to provide their maintenance build capabilities. The contract is valued at about $8.5 million and covers new onshore, offshore and pipeline assets in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea for one of the largest gas developments in the world, according to a press release.

Plant Asset Management, the asset performance management consulting business of Petrofac, will be responsible for the delivery of the work. Due for completion in 2018, this is part of a long-term project that will see Shah Deniz 2 add a further 16 Bcm/year (565 Bcf/year) of gas production to the current 9 Bcm/year (318 Bcf/year) produced by Shah Deniz Stage 1 through the opening of a new southern gas corridor to Europe.
