Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. (PPL), the operator of Gambat South Block (2568-18) with a 65% working interest, and its joint venture (JV) partners Government Holdings Private Ltd. (25%) and Asia Resources Oil Ltd. (10%) have made a gas and condensate discovery over its exploration well Sharf X-1 located in the Sanghar District in Sindh, Pakistan. This is the third discovery in the block after gas and condensate discoveries from Wafiq X-1 and Shahdad X-1, a PPL press release said.

The JV’s exploration well Sharf X-1 was spud on April 18 and reached final depth of 3,730 m (12,238 ft) on July 6. Based on wireline logs, potential hydrocarbon-bearing zones were identified and are under testing. Initial testing in the massive sand of Lower Goru Formation flowed 1.2 MMcm/d (42 MMcf/d) of gas along with 199 bbl/d of condensate, confirming the presence of commercial quantities of natural gas and condensate at the well, the release said. Two additional zones have been identified and will be tested later.
