RBG, the leading provider of fabric maintenance and construction support to the global energy industry, has completed a contract worth in excess of £140k as part of Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International airport upgrade. ??

RBG was contracted by Strabag Azerbaijan LLC, a subsidiary of Strabag Societas Europaea - one of the world’s leading international contractors - to construct a scaffold to support a custom design steel structure which will form a feature over the entrance to the airport.??

This is the first time RBG has undertaken this type of scaffolding project in Azerbaijan, where it was also contracted to supply on site facilities, including toilets, offices and storage units.??

The designed scaffold, which weighs approximately 148 tonne, was erected over a 30-day period commencing 12th August 2010 and will remain in position until the anticipated completion date of November 2010. It is estimated that the scaffold will take approximately 20 days to dismantle.??

The project created 28 jobs, with additional support provided by RBG’s Baku-based team as well as the UK scaffold design team.??

RBG was awarded the contract as a result of the company’s skill, capability, resource and safety record in the design and construction of scaffold systems.??

Bill Abbott, group scaffold manager at RBG, said; “We are delighted to have been involved in this project. It is extremely important for Baku and presents an ideal opportunity for RBG to demonstrate its scaffold design capabilities using much of the experience of completing complex scaffolds in the offshore environment. Its success is testament to the efforts of the whole team involved.”??

RBG has invested significantly in developing technical innovations to existing scaffolding products. In consultation with the Health & Safety Executive, several enhancements have been successfully launched which increase safety for scaffolders, including aluminium beams, the advanced guard-rail system and lightweight steel ladders.
