Australia-based Searcher Seismic Pty Ltd. said March 11 that it acquired the Bilby Non-Exclusive 2-D seismic survey, working in the Bedout Sub-basin and Broome Platform offshore Western Australia.

The acquisition was made in cooperation with BGP Explorer, the company added.

Bilby comprises about 12,300 km of 2-D long-offset, high-resolution broadband data over various grids. It identifies prospective structural and stratigraphic trends that can be used for regional evaluations and future detailed seismic survey design.

The area’s Phoenix South-1 discovery, made in 2014, shows significant potential, according to Rachel Masters, Searcher’s global sales manager. The adjacent Broome Platform also has potential for oil to flow up to it, Masters added.

The survey uses Sercel sentinel solid streamers, bolt-source equipment and continuous recording.

The seismic data processing will be conducted by DownUnder GeoSolutions, Perth.

Final data is expected in June.
