Semco Maritime will participate in the hookup of Maersk Oil UK’s new Culzean natural gas field in the U.K. North Sea when the production units arrive from Singapore in summer 2018, according to a press release from Semco Maritime.

This is the largest-ever order for Semco Maritime’s Aberdeen, U.K., office.

Semco Maritime will carry out electrical work, and two other companies will handle piping and painting at the Culzean complex, which consists of a central processing platform, a wellhead platform and a living quarter platform, currently under construction at the Sembcorp Marine yard in Singapore.

Production from the field, which is 240 km east off the Aberdeen coast, is expected to begin in 2019. The Culzean Field will cover 5% of U.K. natural gas demand in 2020-2021, the press release added.

Carsten Nielsen of Semco Maritime said that the project represents a breakthrough for the company in the U.K.

Semco Maritime expects to employ 75-150 people in Aberdeen over about nine months on the project, the press release said. About 20 people in Esbjerg, both internally in Semco Maritime and at Fanø Fran Service and Ocean Team Scandinavia, who were selected as sub-suppliers for some of the work, will also be employed, the press release added.
