Shell has made a frontier exploration discovery offshore Gabon, West Africa, a company press release said. The well Leopard-1 encountered a substantial gas column with about 200 m (656 ft) net gas pay in a presalt reservoir.
Leopard-1 is located about 145 km (90 miles) off the Gabonese coast. It was drilled in water 2,110 m (6,923 ft) deep to a total vertical depth of 5,063 m (16,611 ft). Shell and partners are planning to undertake an appraisal program to further determine the resource volumes.
The well was drilled in license BCD10 operated by Shell (75%) with CNOOC Ltd. (25%) as a partner.
