Statoil Petroleum AS has been granted a drilling permit for well 6706/12-2 in the Snefrid North prospect by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, a Feb. 18 release said.
The well will be drilled about 6 km northwest of the Aasta Hansteen Field in the Norwegian Sea.
Well 6706/12-2 will be drilled from the Transocean Spitsbergen drilling facility.
Statoil is the operator with an ownership interest of 51%. The other licensees are Wintershall Norge AS (24%), OMV Norge AS (15%) and ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS (10%).
The permit is contingent upon the operator having secured all other permits and consents required by other authorities before the drilling starts.
