Norway's Petroleum Directorate said March 24 that Statoil has made a “minor oil and gas discovery northeast near Gullfaks in the North Sea.”

Preliminary calculations indicate that the discovery contains between 1 million and 3 million standard cubic meters of recoverable oil, equating to 6 million to 19 million barrels.

The discovery will be produced from a subsequent development well from the Gullfaks C platform

Statoil owns 51%, Norway's Petoro 30% and Austria's OMV Norge 19% in the license.
