Talisman Energy Norge AS has received consent from the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway for exploration drilling of a North Sea well, a Feb. 23 release said.

Talisman is to drill well 15/12-24 in a prospect named Snømus, to investigate the find's potential.

The well will be drilled by Mærsk Giant which is a jackup mobile drilling facility. It is owned and operated by the A.P. Møller-Mærsk Group. It was built in Japan by Hitachi and completed in 1986.

Mærsk Giant can operate in water depths of up to 107 m (351 ft) and accommodates 87 people.

Talisman is the operator for production license 672 in block 15/12 in the central North Sea.
