Weir Oil & Gas and MTU will form a new joint-venture (JV) company to develop their new power system for hydraulic fracturing operations, Weir said May 4. Weir manufactures hydraulic fracturing pumps, and MTU is a Rolls Royce Power Systems company that produces heavy-duty industrial diesel engines, Weir added.
The new JV company will provide sales and service for pumps used in shale oil and natural gas well completions. The company will be named at a later date and is scheduled to be operating by 2016.
The companies first announced a collaboration agreement in May 2014.
The JV was announced May 4 at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Weir added, noting that a model of the new power system is available there.
The new power system combines the engine, transmission and hydraulic fracturing pump.
The JV agreement augments Weir's newly launched SPM QEM3000 pumping technology and MTU’s new Frac Pack, which combines the MTU Series 4000 diesel engine and the ZF 8 TX transmission.
Weir Oil & Gas is a division of London-based The Weir Group Plc.
