Wildcat well 26/10-1 hit a 24-m gas column in the Utsira Formation offshore Norway near the central North Sea's Johan Sverdrup area, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said Feb. 12. Lundin Norway AS is operating the production license 674 BS and is completing the wildcat well’s drilling, the organization added.
The discovery area could hold between 1.5 billion and 1.4 billion scm of recoverable gas, the organization said.
The 26/10-1 was drilled about 33 km northeast of the 16/2-6 discovery well in Johan Sverdrup, about 100 km northwest of Stavanger, Norway.
The well is the first in the 674 BS production license. This license was carved out of the 674 production license on Oct. 28, 2014. The 26/10-1 was drilled to 995 m vertical depth in 140 m of water. It was terminated in the Hordaland group and will be plugged and abandoned.
The Island Innovator drilling facility drilled the 26/10-1, the organization said.
