Technip has awarded Lankhorst Ropes a contract to supply deepwater mooring ropes for a high-profile field development by Anadarko Petroleum in the Gulf of Mexico.

Lankhorst’s ‘Gama 98’ polyester ropes will be used on Anadarko’s Heidelberg spar platform, with the facility to be moored in 1,620 m (5,310 ft) of water. The spar will produce up to 80,000 b/d of oil and 2.3 MMcm/d (81 MMcf/d) of gas.

A total of 20 mooring ropes will be supplied by Lankhorst, each approximately 1,100 m (3,700 ft) long and with 1,905 mT of minimum breaking strength. The rope will be manufactured at its new offshore facility in Viana do Castelo, Portugal for shipment at the end of this year.

Gama 98 is a polyester rope tether made from high-efficiency subrope cores laid parallel within an outer braided jacket, according to Lankhorst. Each subrope is computer monitored during the manufacturing process to ensure equal tension and length. Gama 98 ropes include up to 12 subropes.
