BG Group is looking to spud at least two wildcat wells offshore East Africa’s Kenya possibly before the end of this year, according to minority partner Pancontinental Oil & Gas.

The Australian independent says that in Kenyan blocks L10A and L10B, in which it holds a 15% stake, new 3D seismic surveys were completed earlier this year with major prospects mapped. Pancontinental said in its latest financial report that the company and its block partners “are considering a two-well drilling programme commencing late 2013”. BG holds a 40% stake in L10A and 45% in L10B.

Also offshore Kenya in nearby block L8 (Pancontinental 15%) where the Mbawa-1 deepwater gas discovery was drilled, the company added that a second well is now being considered by the partners (operator Apache Energy, 50%) targeting a deeper oil play.

In Kenyan block L6, meanwhile, Pancontinental (40%) said that a 3D seismic survey was completed over the Kifaru and Tembo prospects.
