BP Angola has done a US $210 million deal with Odfjell Drilling that saw it sign a contract amendment to secure further work for the contractor’s ultradeepwater semisubmersible Deepsea Stavanger for the operator’s ongoing drilling program offshore Angola.

The contract is in direct continuation of the existing contract for the rig on BP’s assets in Block 18 and is for six wells with an estimated total duration of 13 months, thus securing work for the drilling unit for virtually the whole of next year.
The contract value is estimated at $210 million, says Odfjell, with the contract amendment including two further unpriced options for two wells each.

  • Transocean, meanwhile, also revealed a 3-year contract for its Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 offshore Brazil to December 2017 at a dayrate of US $440,000 ($482 million estimated backlog). The rig’s prior dayrate was $510,000. It also confirmed a three-well contract for its GSF Development Driller II rig to June 2015 in the Black Sea offshore Romania at a dayrate of $360,000 ($97 million estimated backlog), a major drop from the prior dayrate of $606,000 (and reflecting the trends discussed on pages 8 and 9).
