Nexans Norway will supply static and dynamic umbilicals and accessories for the BP-operated Mad Dog Phase 2 deepwater oil and gas development in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico (GoM), according to a news release.

The project is part of a five-year frame agreement between the two companies for the global supply of umbilical and direct electrical heating cables, Nexans said in the release.

Umbilicals and accessories for the Mad Dog project will be installed in depths ranging from about 1,280 m to 2,160 m (4,200 ft to 7,100 ft), connecting the field to the floating production unit. The scope of work includes three umbilical designs integrating hydraulic, data and fiber optic services, according to the release.

Electrical and fiber optic elements will be manufactured at Nexans Norway plant in Rognan, Norway, and the umbilicals will be developed, manufactured and tested at Nexans Norway specialized plant in Halden, Norway.

Discovered in 1998, the Mad Dog Field is located in the GoM’s Green Canyon area about 320 km (200 miles) south of New Orleans.
