The SNE-5 appraisal well offshore Senegal flowed oil during two drill stem tests (DST) conducted in the Upper Reservoirs, Cairn said in a news release.

“Main reservoir units, pressure data and fluid contacts match previous SNE wells as expected,” the company said.

The first DST flowed from an 18 m interval at a maximum rate of about 4,500 barrels of oil per day on a 60/64-in. choke. For the second DST, an additional 8.5-m zone was added, and the well flowed at a maximum rate of 4,200 bbl/d.

Cairn said the well has been plugged and abandoned, and the Stena DrillMax drillship will move to begin operations on the Vega-Regulus well, about 5 km west of the SNE-1 discovery. “The well will target the Vega-Regulus exploration prospect in the Aptian Carbonates underlying the SNE Field which has potential gross mean consolidated prospective resource of more than 100 MMbbl,” the company said.
