In the June release of RokDoc 6.5.3, Ikon Science’s ongoing collaboration with author and geoscientist Lev Vernik sees the addition of nine conventional rock physics models to Ikon’s geoprediction software; the new version includes new log quality control (QC), conditioning, modeling and seismic reservoir characterization of conventional reservoirs.
During 2017 Vernik’s work with Dr. Phil Wild and the Ikon Science development team added 17 RokDoc models for unconventional resources, resulting in RokDoc 6.5.3 being ready for any play offshore, onshore, conventional or unconventional.
Alongside the addition of these new models, further workflow refinements have been applied to the Xu-Payne multiporosity modeling system, meaning that users can apply the Xu-Payne workflow to exploration settings where significant compaction trends in mineral properties and pore aspect ratios need to be captured and incorporated into the estimation of reservoir and nonreservoir elastic properties.
In RokDoc 3D Ikon Science’s reservoir characterization solution also has seen enhancements that reduce run times and map and section calculation times.
This release also sees significant additions to the pore pressure module, where users can benefit from the addition of 13 new pore pressure prediction algorithms. Pore pressure generalists and experts alike can explore a wide array of different approaches for the estimation of pore pressures that are subsequently used in the development of pore pressure profiles for well planning and wellbore stability assessment. By assessing multiple models and their input sensitivities, pore pressure analysts can delve deeper into their data to derive a greater understanding of subsurface uncertainty and can therefore work to mitigate against problems associated with pore pressures.
Ikon Science CTO Denis Saussus said, “The RokDoc Pressure Suite is now a rich software environment for the visualization and assessment of direct and indirect pressure data. It delivers a cross-disciplinary working environment for the effective communication of geologically driven pore pressure models and their impact on exploration through to development well planning.”
Meanwhile, Ikon Science is continuing to develop and enhance the RokDoc External Interface, which is fast becoming the tool of choice for machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) applications spanning the various geoscience and engineering domains critical to subsurface operations. Through the External Interface add-on, users can access the rich RokDoc database alongside other external data sources and utilize the RokDoc viewers and QC tools to assess and parameterize their various machine learning workflows.
Ikon Science will be exhibiting and providing booth demonstrations at EAGE of the new capabilities available in the latest software release. The company also will be showcasing new technologies that will be launched in September, namely RokDoc 4D and the Theseus knowledge management system.
RokDoc 4D represents a multiyear project to integrate the legacy ChronoSeis 4-D reservoir monitoring tools into the RokDoc platform. This new tool provides a highly flexible and integrated modeling environment where static geological models, dynamic reservoir simulation data, wells, seismic and production data can be brought together to model, interrogate, analyze and integrate multivintage subsurface data for field performance management.
The Theseus Knowledge management system represents the culmination of a software development project funded by two supermajors with the core aim of delivering a software solution that captures, aggregates and manages company knowledge and information and provides a framework for large-scale machine learning and AI applications.
