From Houston (BN): Anticipation continues to build offshore Newfoundland as Statoil has confirmed discovery of light oil at its 2009 deepwater Harpoon prospect in Flemish Pass Basin 500km northeast of St John’s.
Although its potential remains to be determined, Harpoon, in 1,100m, is 10km southwest of Statoil’s Mizzen discovery estimated to hold 100-200mmmbbls. Statoil plans a third Fleming Pass Basin well at the Bay du Nord prospect southwest of the two earlier finds.
