Shell is drilling an extension well in the ultra-deepwater US Gulf on its Yucatan North discovery, first revealed by the operator early last year. The Lower Tertiary probe in Walker Ridge Block 95 is being drilled by the Stena Drillmax ICE drillship in a water depth of 1,786 m (5,560 ft) around 2km southwest of the Yucatan-1 discovery well. The well is also just 6 km south of well partner Anadarko Petroleum’s deepwater Shenandoah field. The original Yucatan-1 hit 37 m (121 ft) of net oil pay.
