Rotterdam-based Hertel Offshore has won a US $90.44m sub-contract to provide the accommodation quarters for Statoil’s Aasta Hansteen spar platform.
The Dutch contractor said Hyundai Heavy Industries had hired it for the engineering, design and construction of the living quarters for the development, which got governmental approval last month.
The South Korean company is building what will be the world’s largest spar platform to produce the field offshore Norway, which is due onstream in 2017. The 2,600-tonne steel quarters will be built to accommodate 108 workers. Work is already underway with delivery scheduled for April 2015.
Hertel said the contract win was its third in three years for Norway, after having provided facilities for Shell’s Draugen and Statoil’s Valemon fields.
