Honeywell has reported that it has been selected by the Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute (KOMERI), to implement its award winning UniSim simulation solution at KOMERI’s new Testing and Certification Centre being built in Geoje, Korea.
KOMERI is South Korea’s leading research institute, specializing in the development and certification of marine and offshore equipment. The new center will be equipped to drive the technological development of floating production, storage and offloading units for liquefied natural gas (LNG-FPSO) in the country. Honeywell’s UniSim software will provide a series of unified simulation solutions to improve performance throughout the lifecycle of the center, allowing KOMERI to create the virtual environments necessary to support LNG-FPSO training and education services required by Korea’s shipbuilding and offshore companies.
Tae-Hyoung Kim, head of the KOMERI Testing & Certification Centre in Geoje said: “As the leading R&D institute for marine and offshore processes and equipment in Korea, KOMERI needs to build these virtual environments to help our country’s top shipbuilders and leading companies in heavy industries strengthen their positions for LNG-FPSO projects around the world. By using Multi-Purpose Dynamic Simulator (MPDS) technologies, which is based on Honeywell’s equipment, software and services, these companies will be able to make use of technologies, which will help them develop better plant designs, and which will in turn improve their operations.”
Whether it is for simulation of online or offline process unit design and optimization applications, UniSim has the capabilities to help customers realize benefits across the lifecycle of their facilities. Shipbuilding and offshore companies can capture and share process knowledge, improve profitability, and maximize the return on their simulation investments.
Dr. Kang-Ju Lee, Advanced Solutions business leader in Korea, Honeywell, added: “Interest around the world for LNG FPSO is just beginning. Our customers in the shipbuilding industry are keen on the development of technologies, testing and certified training courses that will help them meet global standards of safety and reliability for this novel method of gas storage and transportation. With UniSim, KOMERI will be able to develop and offer a broad suite of certification, training services and R&D facilities for South Korea’s shipbuilding and off-shore marine companies to gain an edge in the global LNG FPSO marketplace.”
