Aberdeen-based Interventek Subsea Engineering has released what it called the industry’s first 20,000 psi in-riser shear and safety value that is capable of withstanding temperatures of up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
The valve is an ultra-HP/HT version of Interventek’s Revolution safety valve for in-riser landing string systems. The new product line comes in response to industry’s move into more challenging HP/HT and deepwater environments, especially in the Gulf of Mexico, the company said.
As explained in a news release April 20, the 20K in-riser valve has a 5 1/8-in. bore size and is able to cut wireline and coiled tubing up to 2-in. by 0.203-in. 148 ksi tensile strength. It uses Revolution technology, which uses separate cutting and sealing components so that the seal is never compromised, Interventek said.
