New well intervention hardware is due soon to debut in the US Gulf of Mexico on board the newly-delivered vessel Island Performer.
The newbuild is the latest in a line of ships delivered to Island Offshore, which says the vessel is equipped for riserless well intervention work and inspection, repair and maintenance tasks. The ship, equipped with a well intervention tower, two moonpools and two Remotely Operated Vessels – one of which has its own dedicated launch pool, along with a 250 tonne active heave compensated crane – is due to go to work in the US Gulf for the FTO joint venture comprising FMC Technologies, Edison Chouest Offshore and Island Offshore.
Built by Ulstein and featuring that company’s unique X-bow design, the ship is designed to operate subsea equipment down to a depth of 3,000 m (9,843 ft), and will spend its first five years operating for FTO in the GoM.
