Drilling has kicked off on the SM-1 exploration well in the Sidi Moussa block offshore Morocco with the Noble Paul Romano semisubmersible.

Targeting an Upper Jurassic Nour prospect, the well is being operated by Genel Energy, partnered by Morocco’s state’s oil company ONHYM, San Leon Energy, Serica Energy and Longreach Oil and Gas. The well is being drilled 60 km (37.5 miles) offshore in 990 m (3,247 ft) of water and will take between 60 and 90 days to complete, partner San Leon has indicated.
