Transocean has claimed a new world record for the deepest water depth well drilled by an offshore rig. The ultra-deepwater drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 set the new record after drilling in a water depth of 3,165 m (10,385 ft) while working for ONGC offshore the east coast of India. This milestone surpasses Transocean’s prior record of 3,107 m (10,194 ft) set by the Dhirubhai Deepwater KG2 in 2011 while working for Reliance also offshore India.
