NIS, a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft, and the Hungarian company Acoustic Geophysical Services (AGS) have executed a contract that allows AGS specialists to conduct 2-D and 3-D field seismic survey work covering 545 sq km (219 sq miles) on the Tria concession block in Romania, a news release said.

All field works are aimed at search and exploration of traditional oil and gas reserves and will be conducted using globally recognized oil and gas technologies, the release said.

Several deposits already have been discovered within the block, which is being developed by various Romanian and foreign oil and gas companies. According to the plan, the first exploratory well will be drilled at the Tria block start at the beginning of the next year. By year-end 2014, at least three wells will be drilled, the release said. Total investment volume will amount to approximately $21.2 million euro at this project implementation phase.

Exploration is occurring on the ?ria, Baile Felix, Periam, and Biled blocks in Romania as part of agreements executed in 2011 between the Romanian National Agency for Mineral Resources and the Canadian company East West Petroleum, according to the release. East West Petroleum’s partner in this project is NIS Petrol S.R.L., the operator.
