Ophir Energy has secured a rig for its frontier West African drilling campaign starting in the first quarter of next year.
The operator has agreed heads of terms for an unnamed deepwater drillship for its operated multi-well drilling programme in 2014 off the West African coast. A total of six firm plus additional contingent slots have been agreed.
The programme is scheduled to start offshore Gabon in early February 2014 with drilling of the circa 1 Bn bbl pre-salt Padouck Deep prospect on the Ntsina Block. The second wildcat is expected to target the Affanga Deep prospect on the Gnondo Block, with the third probe likely to be the pre-salt Okala prospect on the Mbeli Block.
