Offshore Tanzania Ophir reports that a second well in its deepwater exploration programme has also spudded in gas-prone acreage using the Deepsea Metro drillship.

Operated by BG, the Taachui well is targeting reserves estimated at 1.4 Tcf, with the well due to be drilled to a TVDSS of 4,050 m (13,284 ft). Drilling at Taachui is expected to take up to 55 days, Ophir reports, to reach the Cretaceous target zone. The company (Ophir) has a 20% stake in the well, while Austria’s OMV farmed in for 30% equity in this block in a deal announced last December.
