Norway’s Sevan Marine has acquired the rights to new offshore LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) loading technology owned by another Norwegian firm, Torp LNG AS.

Sevan’s acquisition covers systems developed by HiLoad originally for offloading crude oil and also for offshore loading of LNG. Rights to offloading oil remain with the original proprietor, Remora, and the first use of the HiLoad systems is about start operating with Teekay offshore Brazil. Teekay bought three of Sevan Marine’s circular-hulled floating production vessels in October 2011.

Sevan, which introduced its innovative floating platform design to the market several years ago, has designed an LNG option for the platform design – which eliminates the need for a swivel turret to connect risers and flowlines – and the company says the acquisition of Torp LNG could provide the offshore sector with safe offshore transfer of LNG cargoes.

Sevan has now created a new subsidiary, HiLoad LNG AS, to offer the HiLoad system to the market, either as a standalone system for an FLNG unit or combined with Sevan’s own cylindrical FLNG unit.
